The Global Coalition for Radiotherapy (GCR) was pleased to attend the World Health Assembly’s 76th Annual Meeting held on 21-30 May, 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland where participants discussed current and future priorities for global public health issues.
During this week of global discussion, The Institute of Cancer Policy (ICP), Kings College London, and City Cancer Challenge Foundation (C/Can) hosted a “Quality Indicators to Raise the Bar on Cancer Care” side event. This partnership between ICP and C/Can focused on developing a framework to measure quality of cancer care in low- and middle-income countries.
The GCR has had a strategic relationship with ICP and C/Can since its inception, and we are honored to have been invited to participate in this important event. Birgit Fleurent, member of the GCR leadership team, attended the meeting emphasizing GCR's support of both organizations and of radiotherapy as a vital
treatment and an important part of the conversation to raise the bar on cancer care.
Professor Richard Sullivan was part of a panel highlighting “the importance of measuring the quality of cancer care, current situation and key challenges.” He was joined by:
Julie Torode, Board Member, Institute of Cancer Policy (ICP)
Eric Kabisa, Executive Director, Rwanda Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, Rwanda
Dr. Andre Ilbawi, Cancer Control Officer, World Health Organization (WHO)
Dr. Mary Nyangasi, Head of the National Cancer CareControl Program, Ministry of Health, Kenya
Amadou Diarra, Senior Vice President, Global Policy, Advocacy and Government Affairs, Bristol Myers Squibb
Sullivan also joined Jade Chakowa, Head of Effectiveness and Impact at C/Can for a presentation on “High-level overview of new cancer care metrics and next steps.”
These conversations are essential to continuing the development of the RT Essential Standards in Cancer Plans. We are honored to have the support of C/Can and ICP in this endeavor. Join us in our upcoming event.
