Educate, connect, collaborate, and save lives: these were some of the ideas shared at the Global Coalition for Radiotherapy (GCR) Resident Partners webinar on 25 August 2023 where presenters shared their insights and reflections on the CRDF Global symposium held in Ghana in July 2023. Dr. John Peterson from Moffitt Cancer Center provided his resident viewpoint, while Dr. Kofi Adesi Kyei from the University of Ghana shared his local perspective. Both speakers discussed the challenges facing medical facilities within West Africa and shared solutions and ideas for some of these obstacles.
When speaking about Radiation Oncology expertise and needed skills, Dr. Peterson said we can “connect with one another, network, to draw upon our diverse experiences and our common skills and training to save lives and to address challenges throughout the world.”
Ruth Cooper of eCancer was the final presenter who shared information about their UK-based charity for oncologists and medical professionals. She proposed opportunities for residents such as e-learning courses and upcoming in-person events in various countries. These events are included in the notes and meeting chat below.
